Course policies and grading (later syllabus updates will contain more detail):

Homework (Traditional homework assignments).

Projects. (Typically collaborative projects with more than one submission deadline/milestone)

Class Participation. (Attendence, discussion, presentations, quick quizzes, and contributions to the course blog)

Grades for written work will be based on how well your work answers four questions:

  • · Does it address the assignment’s requirements?
  • · Does it demonstrate and communicate a mature understanding of the topic?
  • · Is it technically well-written?
  • · Is it focused and well-structured?

Work intended for class or blog discussion will also be evaluated on these additional questions:

  • · Did it generate informative or though-provoking discussion that was relevant to the topic?
  • · Did the author(s) respond well to others’ comments and questions in discussion?

Privacy. The course web log will be accessible to the general public, and you should assume that it will remain public for the foreseeable future. If you prefer to write to the blog under a pseudonym, choose the pseudonym and let me know; don’t post anything to the blog until I set up an author account for your pseudonym. Anonymity is not guaranteed, even if you use a pseudonym. It will be a given that you are a Drew student, and your submissions may provide enough additional clues to identify you.

Academic Honesty. As in all courses, your work in CSCI 10 is subject to Drew’s academic honesty policy. If you don’t understand the work you submit (or that you and your partner submit, in the case of allowed collaborations), or if I suspect for any reason that you have submitted work that isn’t yours or that otherwise violates Drew’s policy, I am required to report my suspicion to the Dean of the College.

Collaboration. For some assignments, collaboration will be required or optional. If you choose to collaborate when it is optional, you must let me know at least 48 hours before the assignment deadline. You may not choose the same partner more than twice for optional collaborations.
